Inspired by landscapes, from North American deserts to French mountain ranges, constructed in the USA, incorporating Japanese fabrications - Simon Miller creations are made for anywhere, everywhere. Launched in 2008, the label has evolved into a modern lifestyle line of men’s and women’s Ready-to-Wear, bags and many collaborations, with Australian stockists including My Chameleon. Here, co-founders Daniel Corrigan and Chelsea Hansford fill us in on the philosophies behind the brand.
Describe your brand in a sentence.
Simon Miller is a hand-crafted, modern lifestyle brand with roots in Japanese fabrications and denim, made in the USA.
Who do you see as the Simon Miller woman?
Laid back, sophisticated – no frills but has a unique personal style. We like to think of our clothes on a girl that loves nature and lives in a city.
What inspires you continually?
Mostly natural textures and colours.
What was the starting point for your latest collection?
Colour palette. We were inspired by a beautiful mountain range in France called the Ochre Mountains and then we focused on the statement textures we wanted to juxtapose – patent leather and burlap looking baby alpaca knitwear/hammered silk and raw denim.
Who would you love to see wearing Simon Miller and why?
We aren’t a celebrity-focused brand, to be honest. It makes us most happy to see our friends around L.A. and New York wear the brand and love it.
If you could live in any era what would it be?
That’s a hard question. Not sure I would want to go back in time to a specific era in the past century … [We] would love to experience a time before pollution.
Is there a fabric or a shape you keep coming back to each collection?
We use a lot of the same shapes, they are our classics – one of our standout shapes is the W005 Crop jean, our favourite and best seller.
